Fourth Annual Advanced Couples-Only 18-hour Tango Seminar and Vacation Camp

July 7 - 12, 2008

Only One Spot left!!

Our European organizer, Alex Gorski,  usually recruits students for this program through a low-key word-of-mouth marketing campaign, yielding up to twelve couples hailing from Denmark, Sweden, France, England, Poland, Australia, and the Czech Republic.  Originally sold-out for this year, there was a last-minute cancellation, and one spot remains open.  While it's a longshot to think we can get someone at this late notice, we wanted to offer this on the off-chance that someone is traveling in Europe already, and looking for a unique and intimate multinational tango experience.

Alex and his wife Zosia first met us in 2004, when we were getting ready to perform at the huge Finnish tango festival in Seinajoki.  In his capacity as webmaster for the Danish tango clearinghouse www.tango.dk, he arranged for us to perform in several milongas in Copenhagen.  When these performances were well-received, he astonished us by proposing a return visit for us in 2005 to Viebek, Sweden, where we would be featured teachers that year in a program he designed, for a group of couples for a week, while they took turns seeing who could use the well-equipped "camp kitchen" to make the coolest dinners for the group.  What he never imagined was that the couples would be so enamored of their experience with us that they would ask us back THREE TIMES, committing at the end of each program to have us repeat the visit the following summer!

Alex and Zosia Gorski

What we've really grown to appreciate about these sessions is that, each year, WE get a chance to distill all the full-time tango work we've done over the previous year - all the seminars, all the workshops, all the performances, all the private lessons, all the designing of group classes, all the partnership work with OUR tango teachers - and put it into a coherent context that we can share with a dedicated group of couples (about half of whom repeat the session each year!).  Never was it more true that "to teach is to learn" - and the feedback (and unprecedented repeat invitations!) we get demonstrates that our approach has hit on something that the sophisticated international European tango crowd values a lot.

From the earlier years (2005-2007):

Music and After-Dinner Wine at Sunset

Dockside Dessert After Class

Dining al fresco next to the "camp building"

The way this works:

All couples are housed in a rented dormitory used for three seasons by a private residential secondary school in an idyllic rural setting in Southern Sweden.  Deb and Brian offer an extended seminar of tango classes and group activities in the common space, which is big enough for twelve couples to enjoy pleasant social dancing.  While many languages (primarily Danish/Swedish) are used natively in the group, classes and group events are held in English

Food:

Couples agree to take turns cooking for the group, with each couple supplying the food they will need to do so (guidance available and food-buying locally is well-worked-out).  Couples agree to partake of the shared (sensible and reasonable) cost of procuring wine and beer for meals.

Your fellow students/campers:

Tango aficionados mostly from Scandinavia, primarily the Copenhagen area, who enjoy convivial, relaxed yet focused tango study in a pastoral, idyllic setting, with plenty of either privacy or party activity, depending on your taste.  Expect to make a lot of new friends from among Europe's northern tier of tango aficionados.

What attendees had to say about previous years' programs:

"Your approach is very inspiring - now I think I can really understand this dance!"

"Your 'overlearning' approach really helps me retain what I learn more than in other workshops."

"The extras you throw in really make it not just interesting, but really fun!"

"Last year some of us were a little unsure that you could surprise us for a third year in a row with fresh approaches - but now we just believe that you'll ALWAYS surprise us!"
