Labor Day Denver Tango Picnic 2004 Photos

Tango Colorado's twice-yearly party just seems to get better every year.  About 150 out-of-towners from Tom Stermitz' TangoFest joined another 150 local Colorado dancers this past Sunday at Tango Colorado's Labor Day picnic/milonga in Cheesman Park in Denver.

Pat Patton (TC President) and Sue Thompson (TC Treasurer) join Adam Engle and other "Gringo Tango" Boulder dancers as the picnic/milonga gets underway.

Working up an appetite in the pleasantly breezy "tango weather", the cheerful Tango Colorado food crew (picture on right, from left, Rick Moss, Kathy Discoe, Sally Rubbiolo, Priscilla Press, and Ellen Yong) was ready to serve...

...and great food by the plateful found its way to the table area, where old & new friends gathered to talk & eat...

...and then, more tango!!

For Tango Colorado, Pat Patton introduced the other officers, as well as former TC president Chris Perkins, who first inaugurated the Cheesman Park picnic/milongas years ago.  Tom introduced the teachers and DJs from his festival (Lisa Battan, Kat MacDonald, Hsueh-tse Lee, Barbara Durr, Robert Hauk, Christopher & Caroline Peattie, Dan Boccia, Robin Thomas and Jennifer Bratt...

...amid much appreciative applause from the assembled revelers.  And then - back to tango!  Until the 10PM city-mandated shutdown...after which it was "pack it up" until next Memorial Day!  As the tables & chairs found their way back to the Turnverein, and the dancers found their way back to the DoubleTree Hotel for Tom's late-night milonga, the memory of Robert Hauk's testimonial lingered in the mind: "This is the best outdoor tango party in the country!"
