PROGRAM GUIDE -- May 22, 2004, 7:30pm
Dear Patrons & Fellow Artists of this Community,
Welcome to the premiere of AIResTango! We are thrilled to present this collaborative piece created by Aircat Aerial Arts and Dance of the Heart. Our show was conceived over a year ago when, over our traditional monthly morning cup of tea at our favorite cafe, we discussed our mutual intentions to find more creative and consistent ways to share our respective performance art with our collective communities not only locally, but globally – and voila!!! The concept of AIResTANGO was born!
The shows' first incarnation culminated in a half hour piece performed over Labor Day weekend 2003 at the Copper Mountain Arts Festival last August. We were slotted to perform in a very chic, colorful octagonal outdoor tent placed dramatically against the spectacular base of the Copper Mountain main lift area at the heart of the festival activities.
During rehearsals, the mountain breezes thankfully combined with clear skies to vanquish hot temperatures - but the morning of the festival, threatening clouds quickly unleashed gusty winds and freezing rain. Cold fingers worked stiffly to master instruments, dance and aerial choreography proved elusive and dangerously slippery as the tent flapped angrily around us. Revealing costumes exposed more goose-bumped flesh than we like to remember! Undeterred, we gamely delivered our performances to a small but equally staunch and enthusiastic (if somewhat soggy) audience. After all, we're Coloradans!!! But we later vowed to give this show a less volatile setting.
With the help and dedication of many individuals (and you know EXACTLY who you are!), we were able to bring AIResTANGO to the Dairy tonight. It is with profound gratitude that we thank each of you for being here to give us the opportunity to share our vision of the delicious fusion of tango culture and aerial arts --- we hope you enjoy the show!

Brian Dunn and Deborah Sclar conceived Dance of the Heart in 1998 to combine their passions for the dance, music and culture of the Argentine Tango. From their years of experience as teachers and performers, they distill for students the excitement, mystery and magic of tango. They delight in making accessible, to students and audiences alike, the vibrancy, intensity, humor, sophistication and beauty of Argentine Tango. Their frequent “pilgrimages” to study in Buenos Aires continually refresh their understanding of tango culture. Their teaching and performance credits over the past 5 years include appearances at concerts, festivals, corporate events, universities, middle schools, hospitals, parties, etc. Their schedule includes a growing list of invitations to teach and perform in tango communities throughout the U.S., in Europe, and in Argentina.
J. Darden Longenecker has been performing in the Denver/Boulder community for the past 5 years. She has performed with Aircat Aerial Arts, Frequent Flyers Productions, Mosaics Arts and Movement Center and at the 2004 CU Dance Festival Legacies Concert.
