Acting360 Overview..."What is Acting360??"
Acting360 is an acting workshop nurturing the practice, discovery and refinement of artistic expression as it applies to the theater.
Acting360 is for the professional, for the novice and for any human being cultivating artistic excellence in their life and in their work.
We call our workshop Acting360 because our technique trains the utilization of 360 degree attention to details that, when exploited fully, gives the actor access to the joy and privilege of simply and powerfully pursuing and achieving their fullest artistic potential.
Acting360 facilitators Deborah Sclar, Kipp Lockwood, Melinda J. Scott and Harry Menton draw from their decades of collective and individual performing, directing, producing and teaching experiences to guide and assist students in tailoring the practice of this technique to result in riveting theatrical performance and character development.
Our Acting360 approach is influenced by the Meisner/Neighborhood Playhouse techniques. Actors applying this technique discover a sense of freedom to fully investigate their stage craft and especially, to trust an approach they can rely on to consistently deliver high quality performance.
We often reiterate in Acting360 that this is "the safe place to be dangerous," the "big, revealed (climatic) scene in the movie." When actors commit to the investigation, processing and ultimate application of this technique, the results can be described as nothing short of thrilling, full, vital, creative, inspired, textured, organic and completely believable. The freedom available to explore character work that is inherent in this technique is limited only by individual willingness and courage to allow, challenge, explore and express within the theatrical context and structure in place. Use of this technique fosters continued growth and development in the craft, applicable to any situation, regardless of the limitations or conflicts that may be inherent in any given run or project.
In order to provide and maintain "the safe place" for the level of courageous, profound artistic exploration we encourage in our Acting360 approach, we utilize a 3-component improvisation exercise to exploit areas where individuals are either liberated to work creatively or confront personal blocks, all of which can be simply applied to fuel The Work. More advanced students are encouraged to bring scene work or monologues to the exercise to enhance their character explorations.
Because the Acting360 approach can take students into uncharted emotional territory, each individual MUST take full responsibility for any emotional or physical discomfort they may encounter as a direct result of participating in our workshop. Our waivers, which we require ALL students to sign before participating, protect our actors and our staff. It is our wish that in committing to Acting360 you will reap tremendous rewards and grow in ways you never thought possible.

Acting360 ABOUT THE FACILITATORS

Deborah Sclar
In 1998, together with Kipp Lockwood, Deb co-founded Acting360, previously known as the Sclar-Lockwood Actors' Workshop. "SLAW" was offered to the acting community in the Boulder/Denver metro area bi-weekly until 2001. Deb also appeared as guest facilitator for similar workshops in Los Angeles, California.
In 2009, Deb partnered with Melinda Scott (see bio below), updating and streamlining the workshop, which received the new name: Acting360. Deb is now joined by fellow actors and collaborators Kipp Lockwood, Harry Menton and Brian Dunn. Her role remains the same; director, facilitator and student.
During the workshop hiatus (2001-08), Deb met and married life/dance partner Brian Dunn. Together they created Dance of the Heart. Based in Boulder, Colorado, Dance of the Heart evolved into an Argentine tango dance school offering classes, special topic workshops and events, private lessons and performances. Deb & Brian's teaching and performing schedule includes a growing list of invitations to schools, university campuses, symphony orchestras and tango festivals and communities throughout the U.S.A., including annual tours to Buenos Aires, Argentina and northern Europe.
For the past 30 plus years, Deb has appeared in leading and supporting roles in film, theater, music theater, opera productions and most recently, tango dancing, from Los Angeles, California to Rome, Italy. Additional credits include awards and scholarships to pursue her classical singing career and nominations for "Best Actress" and "Best Supporting Actress" awards from the Drama Critics Association of Hollywood, California.
Deb co-produced, directed, choreographed and starred in AIResTANGO, an original show combining aerial artistry with the sultry music and dance of Argentine tango. With the support of Boulder and Denver city grants, AIResTANGO received sold-out, standing ovation performances and glowing reviews from a variety of performances in and outside of Colorado over the span of four years.
Deb & Brian currently deliver live performances as guest solo dancers for all manner of productions. Memorable appearances include featured guest artists with bandoneonist Daniel Binelli for the Spokan Symphony Orchestra and the Colorado Music Festival and for the Aspen/Santa Fe Ballet production of The Nutcracker Ballet with bandoneonist Daniel Diaz.

Melinda J. Scott
Serving as Education Director for the Colorado Shakespeare Festival since September of 2001, Melinda has facilitated acting workshops on various techniques for the past 30 years.
Her voice-over work includes live text performances with the Colorado Modern Music Festival, the Colorado Music Festival (Michael Christie conducting) and the current Temple of the Warriors: Rebuilding a Maya Monument exhibit for the CU Museum.
Melinda has performed roles in over 92 productions, from the east coast to the southwest, including Sarah in Quilters, which garnered two awards from the Denver Drama Critics Circle. She has acted in four seasons for the Colorado Shakespeare Festival and is a member of the Shakespeare Oratorio Society, where she both acts and directs.

Acting360 PARTICIPANT TESTIMONIALS
"The workshop provides a structure in which actors learn to know their interior landscape. As a playwright, producer and director, I believe honest portrayal requires honest self-knowing. I wish more actors knew the depths of themselves, real feelings that they could then use as a resource on stage. Here is a workshop that provides that critical creative piece to performers." D. Tresemer, Ph.D./Author/Director
"The workshop not only teaches a subtle, natural and powerful technique of acting, but it teaches how to be more authentic in life." S. Fineberg, Ph.D./Director/Actress
"The workshop has been an enormous influence on my work. By focusing on "staying in the moment," Deb and her assistants help expand and deepen the actor's awareness...(their) patience and experience can help the actor bring an extraordinary depth and breadth to performance..." K. Voss, Director/Coach
"The workshop is a powerful tool which has enabled me to uncover the fears and dreams of my characters, and to hear their distinct voices loud and clear." J. Tandy, Screenwriter/Director
"I really enjoyed taking class from Deb and her assistants. I am now in Los Angeles to continue chasing my dreams of becoming a full-time actor. I am thankful for you guys to have started me in that direction." C. Goblenz, Actress
